Celebrating its 63rd anniversary, The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show rides into town Wednesday, March 19 – Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Great Southwest Equestrian Center, 2501 South Mason Road. This Houston area tradition will feature Olympic-level equestrian competitions and Grand Prix events drawing master riders from around the world in a spectacular show of equestrian sport and showmanship. For a complete schedule of events, visit www.pinoak.org or call 713-621-6290.
Founded in 1945 by Houston philanthropist James S. Abercrombie and his wife Lillie, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show has raised more than $3.4 million for local children’s charities including Texas Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House of Houston.
Katy students will have the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of the historic horse show and meet the volunteers, staff, and competitors who have established Pin Oak as the premier horse show in the southwest. Students will view a Jumping Competition, meet riders and horses, enjoy a behind the scenes Barn Tour, watch a horse masseuse demonstration, and visit with farriers and veterinarians. They will even get to meet two Pin Oak celebrities – Itty and Bitty. These miniature horses are also the heroes of several children’s books authored by Nancy Carpenter Czerw and illustrated by Rose Mary Berlin. Students will also enjoy lunch catered by McDonald’s Corporation.
