Teddy Bear Clinic

Through imaginative play, the Child Life Specialists at Texas Children's Hospital seek to ease the anxiety that surrounds medical tests and procedures for children.  Each year they host a community event, The Teddy Bear Clinic, at the West Campus of the hospital.  Pin Oak participate with the Sports Medicine Clinic to eases the kids minds about getting a cast or splint for some fracture.  Using miniature jumps and horses, the Pin Oak volunteers and Sports Medicine representatives explained the process using the scenario of a horse and rider going over a jump and the rider coming off resulting in a fractured arm or leg.  Build-A-Bear provides a bear to each child attending, so the bear undergoes the examination, the x-ray, and the casting procedure with the child as the helper.

For being an excellent patient, each Teddy Bear was awarded a Pin Oak show ribbon for their champion spirit, and the kiddos received a Pin Oak pony.  Another way, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show participates in the community outside of the horse show.  We thank the Child Life team at West Campus for including Pin Oak is this great event and look for us in 2015 with the Sports Medicine clinic again!
